Spherical roller thrust bearings have several asymmetrical rollers and specially designed raceways. They are suitable for heavy axial loads and also permit relatively high speed operation. However, when operating at high speeds or in applications where the bearing will undergo quick changes in load direction, problems can arise. Inertia can wreak havoc on internal bearing components as well as increase lubricant friction. This all contributes to decreased bearing performance and shortened bearing life. Spherical roller thrust bearings are typically manufactured in two designs depending on the size and series.
